WELCOME TO THIRD GRADE

It's A New School Year! I'm excited about another year of teaching third grade. School shopping is underway and I'm sure you are wondering what supplies your child might need in third grade. Remember, the school provides all the essentials, but if you would like to donate items to the classroom, the following list may be useful: Paper Towels Dry Erase Markers
Spiral notebooks - solid colored cover
Sanitizing wipes - to periodically clean desks
Boxes of Tissue
Puzzles (200 piece or less)/
Items students may want to purchase in a class store (i.e., fast-food toys; cute erasers; Hot Wheels; basically anything inexpensive your child thinks is cool
For your child's personal use they may want:
A pencil box
Extra erasers
Set of washable markers
Set of crayons and/or a set of colored pencils
Scissors
A set of five dice
A deck of cards
A small container to hold fake coins (coins are given out and used to purchase items in our class store)
MULTIPLICATION FACTS
In third grade it is important for the children to learn their multiplication facts 0-12. We use timed tests to determine whether the children can recall facts accurately and quickly. By memorizing the multiplication facts, students will find it easier to learn new math concepts and processes that build on or use multiplication. Please help your child by investing in a set of flash cards and practicing nightly. As an incentive, students will be working towards an ice cream sundae party at the end of the year. They get a different part of the sundae for each step they master.
Check out the Math Games link for rules on games that will reinforce basic math concepts.
